Come discuss ideas and concepts based in community values for sustainable economic development.

First Public Meeting with 2 times to choose from:
Tuesday March 3, 2020
Gabriola Arts and Heritage Centre
2:30-4:30 or 6:30-8:30

The Gabriola Chamber embarked on the Community Economic Development (CED) initiative in 2018. The initial funding for the initiative came from the BC Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations & Rural Development (FLNRORD).

One deliverable for that funding is a Gap Analysis for potential enterprise development on Gabriola Island. The gap analysis will look for opportunities that could fit into the community, culture and existing businesses of the island. Creating synergistic, collaborative and symbiotic relationships within our business community is key for the analysis process.

In the early new year of 2019, the Chamber was awarded further funding from the BC Ministry of FLNRORD to explore the feasibility of creating a small scale manufacturing, processing and production zone, in order to expand sectors and employment opportunities for island residents.

The funding was combined to create this project, which will discuss the pros and cons for the concept and will address whether we should look towards developing new sectors and if so which ones, how and where. This is an exploration and conversation that we are excited to facilitate. The Request for Proposal 2019.11.12 RFP Gabriola Enterprise Zone & Gap Ananlysis is good information for understanding the desired outcome of this project. We invite you to watch for information in the Sounder on social media and posters in the community.

The Community Economic Development Officer (CEDO) is leading the project and Urbanics Consultants have been hired to do the work, which includes community engagement.

The first community engagement sessions are Tuesday March 3rd at the Gabriola Arts and Heritage Centre. There are two times to choose from: 2:30 – 4:30pm OR 6:30-8:30pm.
